If something at your home feels unsafe, knowing where to start can help. These steps are a starting point for reporting a concern.
Do not push, shake, lean on or test a railing or barrier that may be unsafe. Keep children and pets away. Do not approach a hazard to take photographs or try to fit makeshift protection.
Contact your landlord, managing agent or building manager. Describe the location, what you have noticed and why you are concerned. Use their emergency repairs contact when the issue is urgent.
Write down when you reported it, any reference number and the response you received. Ask what will happen next and when. Only take photographs if you can do so from a safe place.
For social housing in England, report the issue to your landlord and use their complaints process. The official guidance below explains when and how the Housing Ombudsman can help. Different arrangements apply elsewhere in the UK and for other types of housing.
