The Joshua Test pledge

Holborn and St Pancras constituency by-election

Our by-election campaign record

At the time, we asked candidates to pledge their support.

We asked candidates standing in Holborn and St Pancras to back practical action on the inspection, testing, maintenance, verification and recording of residential balustrades and barriers.

“If elected, I will help take The Joshua Test forward through the powers and influence available to me.”

Candidate and party responses

These summaries reflect responses recorded by No More Falls. A written commitment to take The Joshua Test forward is distinguished from general support. This is a non-partisan record, not an endorsement of any candidate or party.

Public commitment reported · no direct campaign response

Sagal Abdi-Wali

Labour

The campaign’s emails of 8 and 10 September requesting a meeting and asking Sagal to support The Joshua Test received no direct response.

However, the Camden New Journal reported on 1 October that Sagal committed to continuing Joshua’s case if elected, supported the Joshua Test and had discussed it with ministers. She also pledged to press for stronger accountability for developers and housing providers.

This public expression of support is recorded as such. It does not yet answer the campaign’s requests for a direct meeting, immediate preventive action, named ownership, an implementation timetable, testing where safety cannot be reliably established, or inspection and repair records residents can verify.

Pledge confirmed on video

Patrick Stillman

Liberal Democrats

Patrick publicly stated in an official campaign video that he had made a personal pledge to Fiona's campaign. The video also shows him holding the “I Back The Joshua Test” commitment. He said he would champion The Joshua Test if elected and, if not elected, work with Camden Council to explore local policies or changes.

Meeting held: Patrick met Fiona in Holborn on 21 September 2026 for a positive and productive discussion about the campaign.

His support is directly recorded. The video does not specify his first parliamentary action or an implementation timetable.

Support and commitment confirmed at meeting

Zack Polanski

Green Party leader · party engagement

Zack met Fiona in Holborn on 21 September 2026. The meeting was positive and productive, and he committed his support to the campaign’s asks for The Joshua Test.

At the 6 October housing hustings, the Green representative appeared unfamiliar with The Joshua Test and did not provide a substantive answer. This does not supersede Zack's personal commitment, but indicates that it had not been communicated effectively to the representative.

Concrete accountability action taken

Ewan Cameron

Conservative

Ewan met Fiona in Holborn on 21 September 2026 for a positive and productive discussion. He wrote to Camden Council seeking urgent, written answers about the action taken since Joshua's death and the safety of comparable residential balustrades and barriers across the borough.

On 5 October, Ewan publicly asked Sagal Abdi-Wali to confirm what action she had taken since the balustrade at Joshua's home failed. He also reported meeting Constable House residents who said their request to have a balustrade made safe had received no response.

This is a concrete accountability action. An explicit commitment to the complete national Joshua Test and a delivery timetable have not yet been recorded.

Support expressed · formal pledge not recorded

Helen Spiby-Vann

Christian Peoples Alliance

Thanked the campaign for its work to raise standards for vulnerable people and expressed personal and prayerful support. Her response did not explicitly commit to the requested parliamentary action.

Response received · pledge not addressed

Jonathan Silberman

Communist League

Sent a written response setting out wider political views on housing and capitalism. It did not answer the specific Joshua Test pledge or commit to the proposed inspection, testing, maintenance, verification and recording of residential barriers.

Housing and Homelessness Hustings · 6 October

The event at 11A Pratt Street proceeded, but no parliamentary candidate attended personally. The Liberal Democrats, Green Party and Workers Party sent representatives; Labour and the Conservatives sent nobody.

No More Falls had submitted eight detailed questions in advance. A Joshua Test question was asked. The Green representative appeared unfamiliar with the proposal and did not provide a substantive answer. The Liberal Democrat representative referred to Patrick's meeting with Fiona and inferred that he had pledged; Patrick's own official campaign video independently confirms that commitment.

Proxy responses are recorded as part of the event but are not treated as substitutes for candidates' own written or recorded commitments.

No response recorded at the time

The campaign’s record showed no response from Peter Newman (Reform UK), Clare Fischer (Climate Party), Tyler Johnson (Restore Britain), Briony Kapoor (Rejoin EU), Ketankumar Pipaliya (UK Voice), Ben Walker (UKIP) or Barmy Brunch (Official Monster Raving Loony Party). Some invitations were sent through party forwarding routes.

No response is recorded for George Galloway (Workers Party) or Tom Darwood (Independent); the tracker records that they had not yet been contacted.

No recorded response does not imply opposition to the campaign. This is a dated campaign record, preserved for transparency.
